The University of Denver’s Carson Brierly Giffin Dance Library has announced the 2017 honorees in its Legends of Dance in Colorado project.
Video histories of each of the honorees will be made and added to library’s archives. There will be a ceremony, screening of video highlights and reception for the awardees, open to the public, at the university in October.
This year’s honorees are:
- Gene GeBauer, a former Broadway dancer and a long-time teacher of tap in the Denver area.
- Celeste Grynberg, a philanthropist and dance patron who has helped support city and regional companies, such as Wonderbound, the Colorado Ballet and the Aspen Santa Fe Ballet.
- Maria Mosina, a principal dancer with the Colorado Ballet who retired this year after 21 seasons with the company.
- Fran Page, a founding member and executive director of the Aspen Dance Connection, an organization promoting dance education and dance recitals on the West Slope.
- Damian Woetzel, a former principal dancer with the New York City Ballet and director of the Vail International Dance Festival.
- Deborah Reshotko, executive and artistic director of the Denver-based and community-oriented company Speaking of Dance.
The Carson Brierly Giffin Dance Library is a special collection at the University of Denver’s Main Library, focusing on Colorado and the American West. It contains materials relating to social, theatre, ethnic, ritual, dance-drama and related dance studies, as well as oral and video history recordings.
The celebration for the honorees will take place on Oct. 15 at 4 p.m., at the University of Denver’s Anderson Academic Commons, 2150 East Evans Ave. Send an email to andrea.howland@du.edu be added to the invitation list.
