The Denver Art Museum’s latest outdoor exhibit will bring a new meaning to rock ‘n’ roll when it debuts its interactive rocking chair exhibit later this week.
On June 30, the museum will wheel out “La Musidora,” a 90-foot-long stretch of colorful, interlocking rocking chairs. Dreamed up by Mexico City designers Héctor Esrawe and Ignacio Cadena, each chair is outfitted with “a module with a percussion system,” according to a DAM rep, which uses bells to produce pitches. (“La Musidora” is a portmanteau of the Spanish words for “music,” which is “música,” and “rocking chair,” “mecedora.”)
The installation can seat 20 individuals at a time, who can rock out a melody just by taking a load off.
“La Musidora” will be on display at the Denver Art Museum’s Martin Plaza through Oct. 29. Access to the exhibit is free with a general admission ticket to the museum. General admission is $8-$13, and free if you’re 18 and under.
