Leftapalooza Mile High Tribute Band Competition
Saturday.–Left Hand Brewing Company will bring the drinks as you enjoy the cover acts at the Leftapalooza Mile High Tribute Band Competition. The day’s worth of live music supports the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Eight bands – including covers of the Beatles, Rolling Stones and Grateful Dead – will compete for the title of Top Mile High Tribute Band. Also playing is the all-female AC/DC cover band Hell’s Belles, which guitarist Angus Young described as “the best AC/DC cover I’ve heard.” Ten Longmont breweries and cideries will pour. — Graham Ambrose

Aerial Dance Festival
Friday-Sunday.–Acclaimed aerial dancers from across the globe have already descended on Colorado for the International Aerial Dance Festival, which will hold its showcase performances amid hammocks, silks, trapezes and ropes at The Dairy Arts Center in Boulder. (It began July 30.) This year’s weekend showcase features Sarah Romanowsky, who has performed at the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards, Radio City’s New York Spring Spectacular and in a Chevy Super Bowl ad featuring the cast of “Glee.” Returning artists include Teo Spencer on aerial fabric, Sam Tribble on Cyr Wheel and local troupe Frequent Flyers Aerial Dance. Beer Brat Brawl
Sunday. Tender Belly, Blue Moon RiNo and Brewed Food have come together for a quintessentially summer celebration: a Beer Brat Brawl. From noon to 5 p.m., show up at the brewery to select Denver’s best beer brat. Competitors including CHO77, Highland Tap & Burger, Ophelia’s Electric Soapbox, Block & Larder and Blue Moon RiNo will use specialty recipes featuring Blue Moon beer and Tender Belly pork. Tickets provide four beers, a sampling of all five brats and access to a bacon tasting and a pulled pork bar. The films of Almod–var
Through Aug. 28.’ When it debuted on Aug. 1, the four-week, 20-film “Almod—var En Total” series was the first time Denver Film Society had ever screened a director’s complete oeuvre. Programmed by Denver film guru Keith Garcia, with special presentations by director of Film Studies at the University of Colorado Boulder Ernesto Acevedo-Mu—oz, —the retrospective of Pedro Almod—var’s career continues through Aug. 28 with titles like “Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown” (Aug. 5, 7), “Tie Me Up!
