Denver-based artist Darrell Anderson has created a new painting in support of non-profit Clothes To Kids of Denver, which provides free, quality clothing to low-income and in-crisis families in the Denver metro area.

Anderson’s painting, titled “Ready To Go,” features a young man surrounded by clothing racks who has just chosen a new outfit for himself. The title refers to children being “ready to go” to school in clothes that don’t make them stick out from their peers. The painting went on display in the non-profit’s window today, framed by Glaser Frames & Gallery and donated by Frame de Art.

The project has personal meaning to Anderson, who stood out as a child due to his poor-quality clothing.

“I wish (Clothes To Kids of Denver) was here when I was growing up in Five Points 60 years ago,” he said in a press release.

A public reception with refreshments and comments from Anderson and Katie Jadwin, executive director of Clothes To Kids of Denver, will be held tonight from 6:30 to 8 at the non-profit (2890 S. Colorado Blvd.).

The painting will stay in the Clothes To Kids of Denver window until July 2, when it will begin a summer tour in and around Denver. The full line-up:

June 20-July 2: Clothes to Kids of Denver window, 2890 S. Colorado Blvd., Denver
July 3-15: BMW of Denver Downtown, 1040 S. Colorado Blvd., Denver
July 15-26: Neiman Marcus store in the Cherry Creek Mall in Denver, window between valet parking and E. 1st Ave. store entrance
Aug. 1-10: Georgia Amar’s Habitat Gallery & Studio, 828 Santa Fe Drive, Denver (including an appearance at the First Friday Art Walks on Aug. 2)
Aug. 17: South by Southeast Festival at the James A. Bible Park, 6802 E. Yale Ave., Denver
Aug. 19-Sept. 4: Liberty Media Corporation, 12300 Liberty Blvd., Englewood
Sept.  7-20: Clothes To Kids of Denver window, 2890 S. Colorado Blvd., Denver

The tour is in preparation for the painting’s live auction at Clothes To Kids of Denver’s annual fundraiser, the Blue Jean Bash, on Sept. 21 at the University of Colorado South Denver.

However, beginning today, anyone can place a bid on the painting by calling Valerie Lunka at 303-681-5054. Early bidders will receive discounted tickets to the Blue Jean Bash.

“We are honored and grateful to Darrell for supporting us with his incredible artistic talent,” Jadwin said in a press release. “His painting poignantly speaks to the core of our mission but also stands on its own as a valuable piece of fine art anyone would be proud to hang in their home or office.”
