Steele is one of those people who truly earned the title of “quirky.” The mustachioed, larger-than-life artist and educator, who founded the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design in 1963, left a legacy of bizarre humor and thousands of happy, well-trained art students. To celebrate what would have been his 100th birthday, the college is opening an exhibition of his work — including figure drawings, paintings, sculptures and scholarly works — at 5 p.m. on Sept. 7 followed by a 6 p.m. panel discussion, then a 3D sculpture workshop in his style on Sept. 8.
